Coral & Brian – Rock, Paper, Party!

Coral & Brian

Harelaw Farm, nr Fenwick

Coral and Brian have been friends since school; began dating after leaving and have been together over 11 years!

Brian’s surprise proposal to Coral came just days before Christmas 2016. Getting ready to see one of their favourite local bands, Fatherson, at the Barrowlands in Glasgow, Brian got down on one knee and asked Coral to marry him. After the shock wore off she eventually said yes! And the band’s gig topped the night off!

Coral is well immersed in wedding planning, as the owner of Paper House Wedding. As a designer of wedding stationery and paper flower designs, she knew what she wanted 🙂

The Big Day

Coral tells how they wanted their wedding to be “extremely personal to us and for our music and decor to represent us as a couple.”

She describes, “The morning of the wedding for myself and Brian was lovely and relaxed. My three bridesmaids, my mum and I all got ready at my parents house and Brian, the best man, the ushers and both Dads got ready at Harelaw Farm. Myself and the girls felt amazing after both Linzi (Linzi Bone – Hairstylist) and Jodie (Jodie Davidson MUA) did such an brilliant job in the morning. Once the dresses were all on, we took a few pictures in the garden and off we went to the venue.

I walked down the aisle with my Dad to one of my favourite songs – You & I by an American band called PVRIS. It was just unforgettable, walking towards Brian hearing Yasmin’s version of the song (Yasmin Worral Music). Brian was waiting for me under the group of paper stars I had made which tied into the lyrics of the song “we can meet in the middle… where all the stars align”.

Screenshot_20181105-214310_MessengerMy brother Lyle and Brian’s sister Gillian delivered a reading at the ceremony which was a special touch that meant a lot to both of us to have our younger siblings involved.
Once the ceremony was over Yasmin played Still Into You by Paramore, while our guests threw colourful confetti as we made our way out of the ceremony barn as husband and wife. It was a really fun moment filled with lots of joy and colour.

Our decorations in the main barn were all made by myself, being a full time textile designer, I also have a part-time wedding decor business (Paper House Wedding) and this was my chance to really show off my creative side. Using the rustic venue and our love of music as inspiration, we wanted to create some unique and personal decorations. All of our flowers were handmade from paper including my bouquet and the bridesmaids floral hoops. We also asked our friends and family to collect old drinks bottles and jars for us to use them as vases for the table flowers and to help decorate the ceremony barn. As our table names were named after our favourite bands, we used vinyl album covers for the tables and up-cycled cassette tapes on a beautiful wooden board to let our guest know their place at dinner. For favours and place names, I handmade 114 miniature paper houses with LED fairy lights places inside for each guest to create a personal keepsake for the day. We also set up a DIY Photobooth making our own colourful backdrop and buying paper props from eBay and to take the pictures, we set up our iPad and let the guests snap away themselves. 42497187_2092400360826970_6375474279093370880_nScreenshot_20181105-214338_Messenger

Our first dance was to Signal Fire by Snow Patrol – a song that Brian suggested and it was the perfect choice. A song that we both agreed reminded us of when we first got together. We both felt nervous about the dance but as soon as the music started we both just forgot everyone else was around. As soon as the song finished, we had requested a second song from the band, Biblical by Biffy Clyro. This is another special song to both of us and we invited everyone else onto the dancefloor. It was amazing to have our closest family and friends there with us and we were all singing our hearts out!

A special moment of the night was when George, the owner of Harelaw Farm, handed us our own personalised wooden heart with our names and wedding date on to drill onto our selected spot in the bar. We picked the left hand corner just above the door so we could always spot it.

The rest of the night was spent either toasting marshmallows on the fire pit outside or dancing the night away under the fairy lights in the main barn. It was a truly amazing day and everything we could have wanted and more.”
